Overclocking

Overclocking. This is where all the fun is. I have placed it in between the Hardware and Software sections because you will have to marry the two perfectly to be able to achieve the best goals possible.

This is also where you get your money’s worth out of your investment of time into researching your machine. Designing a machine with optimum hardware will let you tweak it up to its sweet spot. At various iterations I have pushed my current machine to 5%, 15% and 22% of its initial overall capabilities. This adds to the user experience and extends the usefulness of the computer, so that it may survive the battery of time.

There are numerous reviews on the internet about overclocking. I am not pretending to be an expert on any of these things I write about here or any of these pages. What I do know however, is that by identifying and collecting all the necessary information, I have everything I require to form an ultimate solution.

So read ahead, read the reviews, follow the links, google your questions, look up your hardware specs and find the best tweaking guides for the OS you’re running.

Notes

1. Higher fsb is better when overclocking (?).

2. Before running each benchmark, you should execute the command:

rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

This immediately executes all background idle tasks to completion, including tasks such as the Windows prefetcher.
